After a convoluted year of planning a wedding, we set in motion our plans for our honeymoon. We knew that we weren’t going to afford it immediately and be able to go straight after the wedding.
We decided to mix our Maldives Honeymoon with our first wedding anniversary.
Maldives Honeymoon as a Destination
When newlyweds plan their dream Maldives holiday, they may get anxious about being stuck on an island in the middle of the ocean for any period of time.
The best thing is because a Maldives honeymoon is such a popular tourist destination, it is home to some of the best hospitality services in the world. Much of what you may be worried about; healthcare, fitness, dietary requirements and more are largely catered for and easily addressed.
For us, our goal was to have our first completely relaxed trip away together. Usually we visit cultural hotposts, visiting museums, libraries, and archaeological and historical sites. We LOVE learning about different places and their history. For this trip though, Leeli and I needed a break to kick back and relax.

We researched far and wide for a destination in the Maldives that would let us experience the island nation’s beauty, with fun and relaxing activities that also fit our budget requirements. That’s where we discovered Komandoo.
After we’d made our reservation on Booking.com, the staff promptly contacted us about our plans and kept us up to date. We sent over our flight information so that they could arrange our seaplane transfers for us. They also asked about allergies and disabilities or special requirements that we may have.

How much does a Maldives Honeymoon cost?
The total cost of a Maldives honeymoon depends on a few factors:
- The resort that you’re staying at
- The kinds of activities you’re looking to participate in
- Whether you’ll be drinking alcohol
Many resorts will have all-inclusive packages for meals and drinks and activities, which covers your entire stay. This makes the final cost pretty predictable.
For specific items like spa treatments, private tours and certain restaurants, you can expect to be paying extra depending on what you’re looking for. Check with the resort of your choice if they offer the kind of experience you’re looking for.
We paid over £8,000 for an all-inclusive adults-only resort but we booked off-season.
Romantic Experiences on a Maldives Honeymoon
It’s safe to say that the Maldives is a romantic destination. The staff at the resorts in Maldives know this and will make sure to make you feel the best as soon as you land. For us we were welcomed with a drum circle singing “Welcome to Komandoo” and escorted to our ocean villa. Prepared for us was “Happy Anniversary” written in bamboo shoots and flowers on our bed. The porter for our section formed a two swans in a heart from our towels too,. Instantly, the smells of lemongrass, the cool ocean breeze and the warmth of the sun put us at ease.
Sure, it’s great to be in paradise, but what other romantic experiences can you have on your Maldives honeymoon?
At our resort, we could opt to have private dinners on the beach, a floating breakfast in the infinity pool, sunset boat rides, couples massages and even a renewal ceremony if you choose to. All you need to do is let the staff at reception know what you’d like. You can rest assured they’ll handle everything.
Verdict
Even though it is a lot of money to spend. We didn’t regret a single penny. The Maldives is extreme luxury but also a place where worries don’t exist which is exactly what we needed after a pandemic wedding.
It was a reward of embarking on our new adventure, together and reinvigorated our wanderlust. The ability to switch off and have our needs met was a lifetime experience, which we would gladly do again in a heartbeat.
Is a Maldives Honeymoon right for you? We would say yes! We loved the food, the staff and the experiences we had during our time there. We’re even thinking of perhaps visiting again for another anniversary in the future.
