Are the Beaches in Santorini Worth Visiting?

If you are heading to Santorini in the high season, you may be looking to enjoy the Aegean sea beside one of the many beaches on the island.

Here is a breakdown of the beaches and what to expect.

Red Beach

Red Beach is one of the most unique and beautiful beaches in Santorini. Based in the south part of the island, a 20-minute drive from Fira. The beach is easy to access by car or bus.

It’s named for the striking red cliffs that surround it, which are made of volcanic rock. The beach itself is small, but the water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. The beach can be quite crowded during peak season, so it’s best to arrive early in the morning to secure a good spot.

To get to the beach there is a small hiking path, which is important to consider when planning a visit. There are no amenities on the beach so plan-forward with snacks, drinks and sunscreen.

White Beach

White Beach, Santorini, Greece

White Beach is another standout one of the best beaches in Santorini. It’s located near Red Beach, and can only be accessed by boat. It is a small secluded beach surrounded by white cliffs.

The beach is named for its volcanic sand and crystal-clear waters. The beach is relatively small, but it’s a great place to relax and soak up the sun. The water is also perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Again there are no amenities so pre-plan if you are expecting to stay for a longer period.

Perissa Beach

Perissa Beach - Santorini

Perissa Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Santorini, and for good reason.

This black sand beach is long with crystal-clear water. There are many beach bars and restaurants along the beach, making it a great place to spend the whole day.

There are also many water sports available, such as jet skiing and windsurfing. This a great way to spend a day in Santorini if your aim is to relax.

Vlychada Beach

Pyrgos & Vlychada beaches, Andros, Greece

Vlychada Beach is a quieter, more secluded option than some of the other beaches in Santorini. It’s known for its unique landscape, with white cliffs and rock formations that resemble a lunar landscape. The beach itself is long and quiet, with crystal-clear water perfect for swimming. There is only one restaurant serving this beach so bare in mind when travelling here.

Ammoudi Beach

Ammoudi Beach, Santorini

Ammoudi Beach is located in the small fishing village of Ammoudi. It’s a small, secluded beach with crystal-clear water and stunning views of the surrounding cliffs.

The beach is relatively quiet, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the sun. There are a few restaurants nearby, serving fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes.
